| do you have this lens? or a similar lens? how often do you use it? do you use it for portraits and close ups only, or do you use it for group shots too?
i'm debating if i should use it, and it alone, on a senior shoot this week.

| I do have that lens, Carrie! Even though I am a complete photography novice, I have learned that I love the quality I can get with that lens. Maggie Holmes suggested that lens (or the pricier f1.4) for portraits. I believe she uses it for group shots too, but I would have to look through my notes. | |

| I have the 1.4mm and if you have the extra money to spend I say invest in this one over the 1.8mm
1.8 still takes an incredible photo but the 1.4 just has more oomph, lol kwim.
I've used it just taking photos of the kids playing in the yard.

I've used it just taking photos of the kids playing in the yard. I agree. I had the 1.8 and then sold it and bought a 1.4. But sometimes if I am taking a portrait with 2 people it is hard to get both sets of eyes crisp. Maybe standing further back for a group shot would be fine, but I dont really take group shots so I dont know.

| i have the 1.8 and agree if you have the money go for the 1.4. but the 1.8 is a great lens if not. there is a learning curve with it, esp if you're not used to using a fixed lens but its def worth the money! | |

| I have the 1.4 and love it. However, if I'm taking group shots, I just lower the aperture. Yesterday, I took some family photos with it and lowered the aperture to 3.5 or 4.0 for the group shots. | |

| I have the 1.4 too and love it. I do the same as Leigh, just lower the aperature and it is usually fine for group shots. | |
