| So tomorrow I am doing a photo shoot of my boss's new baby and their family for Christmas Cards.
I'm not new at doing photos for others but since he's my boss - I'm a little overly nervous about this. I also will be doing the shoot at his home so I'm concerned about lighting. I don't have light boxes or anything like a studio has. I solely depend on natural light. I figured I'd use my 50 mm Prime lens - Do you have any other tips???
So far they want me to do pictures of their newborn alone, the other 2 boys, then family. Also, I will need to create a family Christmas card for them........
I usually only provide a cd and they are responsible for all their printing but I think he's wanting me to handle that........
Does anyone have any advice on how and where I may be able to take care of that without it costing me out of pocket and not having to charge them an arm and a leg?

| Relax, I know you'll do a great job. They obviously feel confident in your work or they wouldn't have ask you to do it! Just forget he's your boss (for the day) and have fun!

| I know this is late and sorry that I missed it, Renee, but for the future, a photographer that I just took a class from made some really cool and inexpensive suggestions for lighting issues. First, he said that if you needed a silver reflector/light killer, buy a reflective dashboard protector from the car store, like the ones people put in their windshields.
Another idea was to take a piece of white foam board and use it as a reflector tool. He said you could stand in a patch of light in the door and use the foam board to help bounce the sunlight up at the subject.
Last, and my favorite, if you have an external moveable flash, put a strip of velcro around the edge and with a white card that has velcro, you can reflect light just about any way you need to.
Hope that helps for the next time around and that it makes sense. I am sure that you took beautiful pictures and your boss wouldn't have asked you if he didn't think you were talented too.

| ugh - ladies - if there is a shoot that makes you think twice about calling yourself a photographer it's this one. It wasn't pretty. The lighting was bad (and I did have my reflectors AND external flash). I couldn't get the two older boys to stay focused so if one isn't blurry from moving it's the other. Then I have shadows on the only ones I got with all 3 of them....but I'm still playing with them so hopefully there will be some keepers. but on a more positive note...the kids are so stinkin' cute! and the baby - oh the baby is so darling! And I did have another shoot with a different family and that one went VERY well! Thanks girls for all your advice and confidence! Just love you all! | |

| Renee - I think they turned out great! Such cute, cute boys! As a mom of 3 boys, I can totally relate to if one is still and focused, then the other is moving and a total blur in the photo - ha! Truly, I think you did a great job! * And you're right -- that baby is adorable! | |
