| Hey, does anyone know what all the buzz is about with Provocraft and SCAL? I've just heard bits and pieces about PC changing their updates so SCAL won't work on the Cricut anymore (so you will have to just use cartridges). I'm just curious because that is all I use with my Cricut is SCAL! It is so much more versatile and I can even make my own shapes to cut with it.
Anyone know anything about it or if this is true? Just wanting to know and hoping its not soooo.....

| Sorry about that! SCAL is just short for "Sure Cuts A Lot". It's a program that allows you to use svg files, and even just shape files, to cut directly through your Cricut without having to use cartridges. I'm sure that because of programs like these, Provocraft has probably lost some money on cartridge sales. However, I have also seen it boost the interest of the Cricut because you DON'T have to buy cartridges.....
What I understand is that Provocraft has filed a suit or something to stop Cricut users being able to use that program to print files.....apparently issuing blocks that won't allow that in future updates.....I'm still trying to get the exact info on it because I have both SCAL and the Cricut. Now I don't use them a lot but when I do need it, I love the flexibility of having that option.

| Yes, as far as I heard Provo is wanting to cease all use of SCAL with the Cricut. I could never really understand why you could use that software in conjunction with the Cricut in the first place since it wasn't Provo's and theat they would certainly lose cartridge sales. That surprised me! I don't use SCAL... only the carts, so I haven't really gotten into all the debate over it. | |
