I have been invited to teach a Beginning Scrapbook Class on the 28th of this month. I'm nervous cause this will be the first time I have taught a class like this!! I have taught some in my home doing crops for small groups. I have been asked if I would teach classes before but for lack of a good location, etc...it just never happened. Now I'm looking at 15+ ladies in the conference room at a new Hampton Inn Hotel in a neighboring town. So, have any of you ever taught a class like this? If you have every attending one, what were your likes and dislikes??

I love to teach and have taught several different paper crafting classes over the past few years. Good luck on teaching, I'm sure you will do great!

A couple thing I have learned:
1.) Make sure either the students bring their own tools or that you have several (barrow from your friends) that they can use if they don't have it. If you only have one of something it makes for a lot of dead time for the attendees while they wait their turn to use it. This can cause you to loose some peoples attention or others will try to work ahead and then you find yourself repeating instructions many times as the others catch-up.
2.) I provide typed out instructions for what I teach in my classes.
3.) This one may sound odd but its really helpful - Since this is a beginners class at the start of the class ask who has never scrapbooked before. What you are looking for here is to sit them or pair them up with someone that has that then can assist them if they have trouble with some of the basics. Now if they came with someone that has experience then leave them together but if you get singles then pair them up with someone that can help them. This will hopefully make things a little easier on you and help keep the class moving along so you don't have to stop so much to assist everyone. This can also be a little tricky though because some people won't want to help.

Be sure to let us know how it goes.

Thank you, Sherrie!! I am sending a supply list that they have to bring with them to the class, which is mainly photos, tools, and adhesive. I figured I would keep it simple as far as tools good since some of them are just starting out. Everyone that is attending I know really well and wouldn't have a problem pairing up. That's a great tip, Sherrie! Thank you! That was one of my concerns, knowing that there is only one of me and so far 15 of them.

Thanks ladies!! The class went great!! I was worried about the preparations and providing enough supplies but not too much to overwhelm and it turned out good. The ladies that came want to start a crop night once a month, too, so we have one set up for August 17th. I'm working on another class for September and have been asked to set up 3 classes this fall in another town. So everything went really good. I'm glad to have the first one under my belt. I shouldn't be so nervous next time!!
