| I know on another thread everyone shared what kind of camera they had. I have the Canon Rebel and the camera guy said it was an SLR.
So my question is What is the difference between the SLR and the EOS are they the same what are they used for?? ALSO, I heard that the color on the Canon is best and that the clarity is best on the Nikons and I am starting to decide what to get next since my camera needs to be updated. I do have a tamaron lense for the canon and know that you have to purchase different lenses with the Nikon.
I would just love to hear feedback: especially from those that take photos professionally or are working on that

| SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex, which means: that it has a mirror between the lens and the film & that the image you see in the viewfinder (or LCD) will be the same as what appears on film.
DSLR means that same as above but with digital capabilities. If you can view your picture after it has been taken it is considered a DSLR.
This is different than a point & shoot camera because the image that the photographer sees is not the same image that passes through the primary lens of the camera. This is why you do not have to use your view finder to capture. On DSLR or SLR you can not take an image by viewing it digitally.
ok so that being said: EOS is nothing more than a brand in the Canon line of Cameras just like a Rebel would be.
So SLR is truly the type of camera & EOS would be the brand.
I have an SLR camera that happens to be a Canon E0S 40D I purchased it because of the price point I was in. Someday I would luv to own a DSLR Fuji.
Hope I made a bit of sense.
xoxo

| Thanks Norma that does make sense.
So in your opinion you think the Fuji would be better? There are some great blogs out there by photographers do they use thes DSLR cameras or is there a particular type/brand they use

| Kristen I really do think it is a personal preference.
Some pros will swear by Nikon, others will by Canon. Olympus, Pentax, Fuji & Sony are among those as well.
My best recommendation is to go to as many camera shops locally before you are ready to commit.... touch and hold them, see how they feel in your hands.
I did a lot of research before I went to purchase my camera. I was so excited ... found it at Costco for a GREAT price! When I finally got it in my hands I hated the way it felt. It was awkward. Needless to say I came home with no camera. So what I than did was researched all the brands in my price range and just like clothes shopping went hunting to see which ones I liked.
In my price range they were all going to be very similar. When I found the Canon 40 D i really liked the way it felt in my hands. I had my heart set on a Nikon at first but could not afford the one I wanted and did not like the way the one that was in my price range felt in my hands.
Hope this helps you ! xoxo

| I had a Fuji and feel the Nikon was a definate improvement. But again it was a Fuji Finepix 710 vs a Nikon D5000. Really comparing apples and oranges. I love them both for different reasons. | |

| I think it is a personal preference too! I cannot say anything about Canon, b/c I've never owned one. I have a Nikon D40 and I love it, but that's the only DSLR I've owned. I think in reality they are all good....I have heard that the Nikons are a little less weight than Canon's....so if you wanted a more lightweight camera, Nikon might be a little better in that arena...but again, it probably just comes down to personal preference and price range if that is important to you. | |

| Kristen, you sound like me. I did a lot of research and read tons of reviews ( and quite nearly drove myself nuts) trying to choose the best camera.
I finally bought a Canon dslr and have loved it immensely. I've been wanting to improve my photography, and was thinking about a new camera again, but I've discovered that I need a few different lenses for what I want to do.
Canon has some very good lenses at reasonable prices (according to the reviews I've read)
I'm going to take a photography class this fall too, and I'm hoping that will make me more confident with my camera. | |

| Jess, I'm taking one at the community art center where I live- I know myself, and I need the personal one on one attention, don't think an online one would work for me. ikwym, the online ones do seem really pricey | |

It is challenging, and since I do have another lens purchased for the Canon I may end up staying with it, but who knows. I was planning on taking classes from a gal that worked at the local camera shop. She does individual courses at $80 dollars a session. I was going to have her come to my place and see the shots, so she could read the detail on the images and see where I was going wrong. Then she was going to take me around and shot some still life etc. Then the next session other tips and techniques. I love the idea of personal classes, because in a group they may not cover a specific area of issues I am having and have a set agenda

| Hi Kristen! I own a Canon 50D. I purchased it last year after upgrading from my digital Rebel. I have taken an online class from Karen Russell and it was amazing. It was a little more expensive but I considered it an investment. I love her photography and she was very easy to learn from. Even if you don't take the class, you should check out her blog. She used a Canon for years and just recently switched to Nikon. She does a great comparison between Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras for each price point. She used a Canon before because that camera had the best options for what she could spend then. As she upgraded, she found that the Nikon had more features that she wanted for the money. So what I appreciated about her reviews was that she wasn't just a fan or sold on the brand but what you get for the money on each one. Here's the link to the page on her blog where she gives the full review of both brands at different price points. She also does the same review on lenses. http://karenrussell.typepad.com/my_lifejust_not_on_the_ro/photography_tips/I hope that helps! Good luck with your search! | |
