Adding textures on top of photos creates a vintage-like fine art feel. This tutorial explains how to achieve the same result with your own images.
Instructions:
1. Open the texture image, and your photograph in Photoshop or Elements, and with the Move Tool, click on the texture, and drag it on top of your photograph.
2. Stretch the texture so it completely covers your photograph.
3. On the Texture layer, choose a Mode you like best. On the images below, I used Overlay, but also experiment with the other Modes. I also like the effects of Multiply, Vivid Light and Soft Light.
4. Depending on the photo you used, you may need to change the opacity of the Texture Layer to suit your personal preference.
5. You may need to use the Eraser Tool to remove areas of texture. Set your Eraser to 20% and slowly remove the texture as desired.
